Below are a just a few of the steps you can take to get on your way to Joint Commission Certification…
OR YOU CAN JUST LET US DO IT!

  1. Read the standards manual from cover to cover:
This is absolutely necessary for an organization to understand what is expected from the Joint Commission.
  2. Identify a project manager:
This person and likely 1 to 2 others will be among your best and brightest and will dedicate 75 to 100% of their time to this project.
  3. Perform a gap analysis:
Identify your organizations strengths and weaknesses according the Joint Commission standards. Review each standard one by one.
  4. Start your performance improvement process:
Gather as much existing data as possible then put tracking systems in place for each of your measures. Gather data for at least
4 months to ensure reliable tracking and accurate results.
  5. Perform initial file review:
This will help you gauge roughly how much labor you have in store, this is the heart of the review, and the most time consuming.
  6. Perform policy & procedure review:
If you don’t have policies start creating them according the Joint commission’s specifications. The Standards manual has identified each standard that requires a specific policy.
